Mark Dixon

Mark Dixon moved from this life to the next on October 15, 2022 at the age of 73.

He was born on November 4, 1948 to Tom and Edith Dixon in Garden City, Kansas, but the family soon moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma. It was small town America at it’s most charming and he always described his childhood as idyllic. He stayed in Blackwell until he answered the call of the U.S. Navy to serve as a sonar technician. He spent 8 years in active duty and 16 more serving as a reservist. While he never saw himself as a hero, he was fiercely patriotic and honored to have served and to have made the contribution he did in the military. He worked in a number of industries until, at the age of 38, he chose to go to college. He earned a degree in computer science and worked as a programmer for the rest of his life. He loved the variety, the puzzle and the challenge of the work. The opportunity to program for Waffle House Corporate was his dream job. He never retired. Even at the age of 73, he loved his job. He was a loving husband and father, but nothing trumped the role of “Poppy” to his six grandchildren. He was generous to a fault. He never let anyone else pick up the check. He loved his 15 years as the church lobby “coffee guy”. He was a loyal friend. He loved the Lord and was confident in his eternity.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Philip.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patti, his daughter, DeAnn Dixon, his daughter and son-in-law, Ashleigh and Travis Rexroth, his son, Alexander Dixon, 6 grandchildren, Christina, Ethan, Alivia, Cohan, Hudsan and Makenzie, father-in-law, Al, sisters-in-law, Marcia, Deena and Rita, brother-in-law, Joe, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

The family will receive friends at 1pm on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Gainesville First Church of the Nazarene. Service to honor Mark’s life to follow at 2pm.
